Pink fruit will be on sale in 2021.
The Australian government is seeking to increase the variety of green fruit sold in grocery stores to make it more appealing to consumers.
The government has announced the expansion of the pink fruit market in the Northern Territory, where the pink variety of the fruit is popular with the Indigenous community.
The Government said the pink banana is one of the most popular and sought after fruit in the country and that it was one of just a few bananas in Australia with pink and blue flesh.
“It’s an iconic and iconic fruit, so it’s something that we want to give back to the community,” Assistant Minister for the Environment, Mark Hirst, said.
“Pink bananas have a really strong connection to Indigenous people.”
We’ve got some pink fruit on the shelves of stores in the NT, so we wanted to make sure that pink bananas were a part of the market.
“Mr Hirst said the government had made several recommendations to increase diversity in the pink and purple fruit market, including more diverse packaging and marketing strategies and new varieties of pink bananas.
He said the Government was also reviewing existing regulations in the market, to help increase diversity.”
There are lots of things we can do, to make things more appealing and more appealing for people, and the pink bananas have just been one of them,” he said.
Mr Hides said he wanted the Government to encourage the local Indigenous community to grow and produce pink fruit.”
They’re a part, they’re a family, they have a culture, and I think that’s the best way we can support that,” he told Radio National.”
If we don’t grow the pink in the north and the purple in the south and in the middle of the country, then we’re going to lose the great diversity that is in our fruit basket.
